How To Clean A Gold Rolex Watch
Rolex watches are renowned worldwide for their style, luxury, and life and are far above their class in terms of prestige and precision.
If you own a Rolex it is important to wear it with caution and take due care of it. By giving as little as 15 minutes to cleaning the watch every couple of months you can increase its life and keep it looking as new as ever for much longer.
The following instructions can be easily followed to clean your Rolex without damaging it.
Like any other work of technology, a Rolex requires occasional cleaning and upkeep. There are many grooves etc. on the watch where dirt, body oils, and other types of grease can get stuck; such as between the links on the band, the area joining the case and the bezel, and around the lens. With continued use and the gathering of dirt particles, the watch will require a thorough cleaning as described here.
Before you start cleaning make sure that the crown is tightly screwed onto the case.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap or hand wash
- Use lukewarm water to rinse your watch.
- Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and ammonia-free soap.
- Apply this soapy water all over your watch using your hands (don't dump it in the water).
- Now, gently scrub the watch to clean it of all dirt particles. If you use a toothbrush for this make sure it has soft bristles.
- Once the Rolex has been cleaned, wipe off the soap solution with a dry cloth.
- Using a clean and soft cotton cloth, gently pat the watch until dried.
- Since your cloth may not reach the links on the bracelet, you can use a blower or hair dryer to remove the excess water from the inner surface of the links.
To complete the process use a clean dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture.
Removing Scratches from the Bracelet of Your Rolex Watch
The bracelet of a Rolex requires special care, as the metal scratches and tarnishes. This is especially true of the Oyster bracelet which features polished center links. By polishing the bracelet once every few months, you can retain the brand new look and shine of your Rolex forever.
Scratches can be easily removed from the polished center links with a little effort and time. Any good quality polishing cloth such as one used with products designed for removing scratches from polished stainless steel and gold surfaces can be used. These polishing cloths come soaked in a special liquid meant for polishing. They are inexpensive and can be used multiple times.
When using the polishing cloth on the surface of your bracelet, there are some things that should be kept in mind
- Make sure you use the cloth only on the polished surface of your bracelet. If you use it on the non-polished surface, it will damage its finish.
- One way to do this is to use a Q-Tip, wrap the polishing cloth around its head and carefully restrict the buffing movement to the desired area.
- Do not apply too much pressure while polishing.
- Avoid using circular or cross strokes while polishing. Follow the grain of the surface (not against the grain).
- A minute of polishing usually is enough to remove the fine scratches that appear like hairlines. You may need to devote more time, however, if the scratches are deeper or more prominent
Lastly, avoid polishing surfaces that don't have any scratches as you might end up removing a fine layer of metal from the surface and damage those surfaces. In these areas, less is more.
